Goulburn Valley fruit growers have good reason to be alarmed and horrified by the recent comments by Federal Minister for Trade, Dr Craig Emerson that Australia’s quarantine restriction on New Zealand apples is an ‘example of back door protectionism based on misuse of quarantine concerns.’

The price slashing of Coles and Woolworths fresh milk shows a clear disregard for the plight of dairy farmers In Northern Victoria.

Early this morning the World Trade Organisation announced it had rejected Australia’s appeal to maintain restrictions on importing New Zealand apples.
Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, said this was a huge disappointment given the years of public protest and industry concern that the imports could put the Australia apple and pear industries at great risk.
