New Zealand gets Heinz and we get fire blight

About 15 local fruit growers travelled from the Goulburn Valley to Parliament House in Canberra today to meet with politicians and called for support to help keep fire blight out of Australia. Federal Member for Murray, Dr. Sharman Stone said that in a crowd of over one hundred, the growers brought home the message that the Labor Government has given up on the job of protecting Australian fruit. ... Gillard Government opens the door for disease in Australia

Federal Labor Minister for Agriculture, Joe Ludwig has sold out on the agriculture and horticulture industry by endorsing the draft recommendations contained in Biosecurity Australia’s draft report. These recommendations would allow fresh New Zealand apples in to Australia with minimum quarantine checking. SPC Ardmona review of manufacturing announced

The announcement of Coca Cola Amatil (CCA), owners of SPC Ardmona (SPCA) comes as no surprise to local growers. Terry Davis, Group Managing Director of CCA yesterday said that the viability of SPCA would be reviewed, with an interim report coming out in August.
