Send Care Packages to Australian Troops overseas this Christmas

November 9, 2011

This Christmas over 2000 Australian troops will not be coming home to spend time with their families.

Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, wants to remind people that Australia Post has again this year, offered an opportunity to free post parcels to our troops, who give everything for our country and also help others in desperate situations throughout the middle-east and other parts of the world.

“Australia Post is providing free delivery of care packages weighing no more than 2kg to serving Australian Defence Force personnel throughout the world,” Sharman Stone said.

“Parcels can be sent to any serving Australian, whether soldier, sailor, airman or airwoman or even to the explosive detection dogs. Favourite gifts are snacks (but nothing that will melt), books, socks, DVDs, magazines etc.”

“When you send off your care package it is good idea to include a letter of support to the person, to show we at home are still thinking about them. You also may like to include a stamped self addressed envelope, so the person who receives your package may reply to you,” Sharman Stone said.

“To be delivered by Christmas, packages must be received by Australia Post no later than Monday, December 5.”

“I strongly encourage as many local people as possible and our schools to send off a parcel to those overseas or alternatively donate some goodies or time to help our local charitable organisations.” Sharman Stone said.

“Please have a look at my website www.sharmanstone.com for more information on what to send and where to send it or give my office a call on 58215371 or 1300 132 413,” Sharman said.
