Carbon Tax becomes an expensive reality
November 9, 2011
The Senate has passed the Carbon Tax legislation that Julia Gillard promised “we would never have under a Government I lead.”
Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, said today “That the passing of this legislation through both houses of Parliament was a betrayal of the Australian people by the Gillard Labor Government.”
“When Australians went to the polls back in 2010 they were convinced that an expensive and controversial carbon tax was clearly off the agenda. How wrong they were.”
“Now, without a mandate, the Labor Government has made its carbon tax law and Australians will now face a higher cost of living without having a say.”
“We have already seen in Murray the disastrous effects of droughts and flood on many struggling manufacturing companies such as Heinz and SPC. What will the added imposts of a carbon tax do to their bottom line and financial futures and our local jobs?” Sharman Stone said.
‘Our jobs, household costs ,agricultural and manufacturing industries will all be impacted by this tax which the Government has yet to prove will make a difference to climate change.”
“At the next election the Coalition will seek a mandate from the Australian people to repeal this tax. I can only hope that the election is very soon so that Australians are not made to suffer.” Sharman Stone said.
