Ombudsman hears insurance woes at Bridgewater and Rochester
October 28, 2011
The meetings with the Financial Ombudsman’s Service to hear the insurance problems of flood affected locals in Bridgewater and Rochester this week were a great success.
Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, who organised the seminar said, “Clearly there are still some very difficult issues that have not yet been addressed by insurance companies. The Ombudsman will look into these individual complaints and see if a resolution can be found quickly.”
“I still hear from residents who, after almost 10 months, are not able to return their homes because of mould, damp and destruction because their insurance claims are still in dispute.”
“The Financial Ombudsman Service is having about a 50% success rate in favour of locals who have their complaints investigated. I would encourage anyone who has still not had a resolution to their flood insurance inquiries to contact the Ombudsman’s office immediately to have their concerns heard or alternatively contact my office” Sharman said.
“It is important that residents, local business and farmers know that there are positive avenues of assistance to investigate their complaints with a strong chance of a resolution. The Ombudsman has the ability to require insurance companies pay up to $280 000 to settle a claim.”
You can contact the Financial Ombudsman’s Service on 1300 78 08 08 or visit the website at www.fos.org.au for further information or contact my office on 5821 5371 “Sharman Stone said.
