Poor Digital Television Reception Continues in the Echuca Region
October 5, 2011
Ever since the Digital Switchover in May this year, poor TV reception problems for the Echuca area have surfaced, and are not being addressed.
Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray said today, “my office was first alerted to this problem in May when the switchover occurred and I have been contacted by a stream of frustrated Echuca residents ever since.”
“Some residents have experienced constant pixilation and poor picture quality. To obtain a reasonable reception they been forced to pay a lot for expensive aerials and other reception boosting devices, just to watch a decent picture on their TV’s.
“This is simply not acceptable when the promise of a trouble free switchover by the Labor Government was announced in May.
For many older residents their TV is their best source of information and entertainment and they simply cannot afford the expensive extra equipment to improve their reception.
I have written to the Minister for Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy more than once, requesting that this issue be addressed as a matter of urgency so residents can have quality reception for their TV’s as promised. His response to date is: “check your antennas.”
Advice from local specialist electronic dealers say the problems are widespread and can only be resolved by the installation of a signal repeater tower in the Echuca area.
“Once again the Labor Government has failed to understand the shortcomings and repercussions of its own programs and ignored the plight of places like Echuca.
“I will continue to pressure the government to install a repeater tower or do whatever it takes to resolve the problem,” Sharman Stone said.
