VOICE YOUR CONCERNS ABOUT FLOOD INSURANCE
July 14, 2011
“If you have concerns about how your insurance claim was treated during the floods now is the time to have your say,” says Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray.
On 2 June 2011 the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs initiated an inquiry into the operation of the insurance industry during disaster events. This is an opportunity to tell your story.” Sharman Stone said.
“The committee cannot help in individual cases but can work to ensure that in future the problems experienced this time round are not repeated. Submissions do not have to be lengthy, professional documents but tell your story particularly about the claims processing arrangements.” said Dr Stone
For example; explain whether consumers were given accurate and useful information by insurers and was the time taken to process claims reasonable and what could improve this in the future.
Although electronically uploaded submissions are preferred, written submissions can be sent to the: Committee Secretary, House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs, PO Box 6021, Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600
“A series of public hearings will follow on from the submissions and will be conducted in Victoria during the next few months,” said Dr Stone.
“If you do not want to make a submission you can go to the online address above and fill in the survey there. If you have made a disaster-related claim on your insurance policy in the last 5 years then you are invited to comment.”
I encourage those who have been affected by these terrible floods to have their voices heard,” Sharman Stone said.
