Australia Post adds to costs of doing business

July 8, 2011

Businesses paying their monthly Australia Post accounts through their cheque account will be charged hefty additional fees from next month.

Federal Member for Murray, Sharman Stone said this is another impost on business at a time when they are facing the uncertainty of the impact of the Gillard carbon tax on business. Local businesses are already reeling from the higher costs of doing business, but apparently they now have to go off to the banks to set up another line of credit.

Many local businesses who have faithfully paid their accounts on time through their cheque accounts are now forced to look at alternative payment methods or pay this hefty charge.

A call to the corporate office of Australia Post confirmed that there will be a $100 cheque payment fee on all business credit accounts where they make payments by cheque.

Australia Post says it will accept direct debit, credit card or EFTPOS payments without any additional charges, but a cheque will incur a $100 fee.

We recieved our Aus Post bill in the mail today with this new fee.
How can they get away with this as they are not doing anything to justify it.
The local post office agent recieves the cheque and process the payment electronically to aus post, the agent then banks the cheques with all the other cheques he has recieved, so the big end of town do nothing for their money and the local guy gets all the greif from customers.
Whay are they allowed to dictate to us how we pay our bills.
