February 24, 2011
Labor has finally released the criteria for the long awaited Rural Tertiary Hardship payment much to the relief of disadvantaged local students.
Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, said the funding criteria for a $3000 payment, has finally been released on the website two months behind schedule.
The eligibility requirements include that your parents combined income limit is $150,000 per annum in the previous year, you are under 25 on the 1st of March, you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, are doing the first year of an undergraduate course, are doing a full time degree, and you do not live in a major city. You can only receive one grant.
Sharman Stone said although $3,000 grant given once within a three year period is not a lot, it will certainly help a little, so I encourage all of our students starting university this year to apply.
“There is only $20 million allocated for the fund between 1 January 2011 and 30 June 2013.
As well as the eligibility criteria, there is also a selection criteria to determine your hardship, eg: number of dependant children in the family, liquid assets, your own income or your partners income.
Their will be 3 rounds of grants at the beginning of 2011, 2012 and 2013 with two supplementary rounds mid 2011 and 2013. The first round of applications closes 5pm, Tuesday 22 March.
