Murray

Be Prepared for Natural Disasters this Summer

November 16, 2011

Last year and earlier this year, the residents of Murray experienced bushfires, severe storms and floods with devastating results. Unfortunately many people were caught unaware and without appropriate disaster management plans.

Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, is encouraging all locals to this year to be well prepared for any disaster that nature may throw our way.

“Disaster Management Plans are pivotal in helping to minimise both risk to property and more importantly life. There are many ways you put in place action plans to help prepare you for such an event,” Sharman Stone said.

“The Australian, state and local governments are already working together with police, fire authorities and other emergency services to put in place strategies that will prepare them for the upcoming season.

“We must also take our own steps to make sure our families and communities are well prepared in the advent of a natural disaster and take all the necessary precautions.

“For more information on the planning processes you can visit www.em.gov.au or for assistance in putting in place individual strategies you can visit www.vic.gov.au.

“For bushfire preparation you can contact the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667 to request a Bushfire Survival Plan contained in the Fire Ready Kit.

“If you would like further assistance or information you can also contact me on 5821 5371. I encourage everyone to have in place their emergency plans as soon as possible,” Sharman Stone said.
