October 20, 2011
The Federal Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs will visit the towns of Rochester and Bridgewater next week to listen to locals who have experienced problems with insurance companies during the recent floods.
Dr Sharman Stone, a member of the Parliamentary Committee, has invited the group to the electorate to investigate such issues as delayed payments, assessments and the operation of insurance companies during disaster events.
Dr Stone said the Committee has travelled around Australia listening to victims of natural disasters who have had a great deal of trouble accessing their insurance claims.
The Public Hearings will be held in:
Bridgewater on Wednesday October 26 from 11.45 to 1.30pm at the Bridgewater Recreation Reserve Centre Main Street, Bridgewater:
Rochester on Thursday October 27 from 8.30am – 11.15am at the Presbyterian Church Hall, Cnrs Victoria St and Northern Highway, Rochester.
“I encourage individuals, businesses and organisations that have experienced difficulties with the insurance industry to come along to the public hearings and have their voices heard. The Committee can then make informed recommendations to the Government to improve the operation of the industry, “Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray said.
“If anyone has any questions regarding the Committee’s visit or wants to find out more about the inquiry they can visit http://www.aph.gov.au/house/committee/spla/insurance/index.htm or contact my office on 1300 132 413 or (03) 58215 371,” Sharman said.
