WILL LABOR MPs STAND UP FOR THEIR ELECTORATES
“Federal Labor members of Parliament have two days left to stand up for their electorates and their country by refusing to vote for the Green’s carbon tax in Parliament this Wednesday,” Sharman Stone, Member for Murray said.
“In particular voters throughout regional Australia will be watching closely to see how members like Steve Gibbons representing Bendigo and Robert Mitchell representing McEwen will represent them on this issue.”
“Before the last election Ms Gillard said ‘there will be no carbon tax under the government I lead’. This week, all members of Parliament will have the chance to vote against this toxic tax that the Prime Minister promised we wouldn’t have,” Sharman Stone said.
“The Labor‐Green Carbon Tax will drive up prices, take away jobs and do nothing for the environment. It is a big new tax on everything, affecting all that you have to buy and every year it will just go up.”
“On the Government's own figures, 3 million Australian households will be worse off under the carbon tax.
“On the Government's own figures, dual middle income families will be the worse off,” Sharman Stone said.
“As former Reserve Bank Board member Dick Warburton said on radio Monday morning, the carbon tax is ‘not being taken up by other countries overseas and as long as that happens then we are going to be at a competitive disadvantage’.” (Radio National Breakfast, 10 October 2011)
“There is in fact a much better way. The Coalition’s Direct Action plan is a strong and effective policy that will reduce carbon emissions by 5% by 2020 without an extra tax. The Coalition’s Direct Action means no extra costs to households, no new taxes, and no increase in electricity prices as a result of the policy,” Sharman Stone said.
“The Coalition will oppose this destructive Labor‐Greens carbon tax in opposition and we will remove it when in government. It is not fair that they are trying to introduce this terrible tax without first taking it to an election,” Sharman Stone said.
