National Skills Week 1-8th October
October 4, 2011
National Skills week is a new initiative to promote the status of trade, skills and Vocational Education and Training. It has been timed to coincide with the WorldSkills competition in London from the 5-8th October where 30 of our best and brightest skilled champions will be competing in a range of areas including landscape gardening, fashion technology and restaurant service.
Federal Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone said today, “There will always be a demand for skilled workers, whether they have completed a trade qualification or have undertaken on the job skill training. Mature aged workers deciding to change their job directions should also consider a trade qualification.
“As more technology is introduced the skill levels required of workers to operate even basic equipment increases.
“It is very vitally important that young people, in particular from rural and regional Australia understand the importance of gaining skills through an apprenticeship or vocational education and training,” Sharman Stone said.
‘Australian apprenticeships are available in a variety of certificate levels in over 500 occupations and offer a wide range of incentives for both apprentices and their employers.
I would encourage anyone that may be interested in following this career path to visit www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au or to discuss options with Skills Victoria on
(03) 9651 9999,” Sharman said.
