Inquiry into insurance industry in wake of floods
June 14, 2011
The House of Representatives Committee on Social Policy has begun an inquiry into the response of the insurance industry to extreme weather events, such as those that occurred in the electorate of Murray late last year and earlier this year.
Federal Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone encourages those individuals and businesses that were affected by the floods and subsequently their insurance companies to respond.
“The Committee is conducting an online survey about insurance claims in disaster-affected communities,” Sharman Stone said.
“The survey gives people who have made a disaster-related claim in the past five years, the opportunity to comment on the coverage of their insurance policy, the claims process, and the handling of their insurance claim.
“There are many people and businesses that have not had a satisfactory response from their insurance company. Similarly, there may have been cases where insurance companies have provided excellent assistance with claims.
“I encourage those that have been affected, either negatively or positively to complete this survey,” Sharman Stone said.
