Volunteer Grants open for 2011
May 18, 2011
Federal Member for Murray, Sharman Stone has today encouraged voluntary organisations in the electorate of Murray to apply for the 2011 round of Volunteer Grants.
“Volunteer grants were first introduced by the Howard Government in recognition of the valuable contribution voluntary groups make to the community. 2011 marks the tenth year of their operation,” Sharman Stone said.
“The grants provide funding of between $1,000 and $5,000 to voluntary incorporated organisations and have been used in the past to buy such things as chairs and tables, lawn mowers, computers, cameras, heaters and coolers and much, much more.
“The grants can also be used for reimbursement of fuel costs for volunteers who use their own car to transport others to activities or to deliver food and assist people in need.
“The grants can also contribute to the costs of training courses or to undertake background screening checks that are required for some volunteers.
“Volunteers and voluntary organisations have helped build and sustain both our small and bigger communities.
“Hundreds of local organisations have already been awarded up to $5,000 for much needed equipment,” Sharman Stone said.
Applications for the grants close on the 8th June.
