Four schools in the Murray electorate have recently been granted the Federal Government’s National Solar Schools Program funding for up to $50,000.

A recent report on Victoria’s food and fibre export performance released by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) shows that Victoria is recovering from the drought.
The agriculture and food exports out of Victorian ports have now set a record with its earnings surging to $8.1billion for the financial year 2010-2011. Most of it was grown in Victoria.

It took two tough years after a huge local campaign to get the Gillard Government to finally reinstate Youth Allowance for all eligible country students late last year.

The NAPLAN 2011 that tests all Year 3,5,7 and 9 children confirms that the gaps in achievement between schools and the best and poorest students are getting wider and there has only been little improvement in literacy and numeracy since the test’s introduction.

The expansion of the Dhurringile prison will add another 80 jobs to the local economy.
Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray, welcomed this good news saying that the expansion will greatly support the Murray region, especially benefiting businesses in Tatura, Murchison and Shepparton. The Federal Government has launched a brand new anti-bullying website called 'Easy Guide To Socialising Online' after the death of a Melbourne school girl on 9 January 2012. Sheniz Erkhan was a victim of schoolyard and online bullying and took her own life a week before her 15th Birthday.
