The only truly rural electorate to change hands from Labor to Liberal in Victoria on Saturday and with a massive swing too was Seymour. This swing was a resounding NO vote for the North-South Pipeline, that ultimate Bracks/Brumby folly which pilfered water from food producers and family farms, pushing it up and over the Great Dividing Range to a capital city that did not care to recycle or harvest... At a press conference at Parliament House in Canberra the Prime Minister was asked a very serious question by a journalist. Latika Bourke, from Radio 2UE, asked Mr Rudd why his leadership was “in crisis”. Mr Rudd did not answer the question but commented instead on what Ms Bourke was wearing.

On Monday in Federal Parliament members were asked to stand up and acknowledge the government’s achievements in improving the economic position of women.
The statistics, the commentary in the community and the despair and worry of women today reflects the fact that women’s economic position under this Labor Government is deteriorating.

A joint media release from Damian Hale, ALP member for Solomon in the Northern Territory, and Warren Snowdon, Minister for Indigenous Services, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery, was issued on 3 June 2010.

The restriction of full-strength takeaway alcohol sales may not work in every town but it worked for the families of Fitzroy Crossing where a generation of Indigenous people was being wiped out by alcohol.

Newspapers have to be held accountable. In the Weekly Times 31 March 2010 page 7 the Journalist Peter Hunt writes that the Commonwealth and State Governments have committed to $65 million to buyout 108 Campaspe District water entitlement holders.
He states “irrigators gain $2400 a megalitre from the Commonwealth”. Sadly that is simply not true, but we certainly wish it was so.
